"The difference between a ₹3,000/hr studio and a ₹8,000/hr one is often the 'noise floor'. Ask for a raw audio sample from the room with the AC at full tilt before you book."
Interview shoots look simple. Two chairs, two cameras, some lights. But as any director who has had to 'fix it in post' knows, the small details make the difference between a high-authority brand film and a video that looks like a Zoom call.
Soundproofing: The Invisible Dealbreaker
If you're shooting in a city like Mumbai or Bangalore, absolute silence is a luxury. When browsing interview studios, look for 'room-in-a-room' construction. Acoustic foam on a drywall isn't enough; you need mass to block out low-frequency traffic noise.
Multi-Cam Setup and Frame Depth
A professional interview needs at least three camera angles:
- Angle A (Wide): Establishes the relationship between interviewer and guest.
- Angle B (Host Mid): For the interviewer's reactions.
- Angle C (Guest Mid/Tight): For the primary content. This frame needs the most depth.
Check that the studio is deep enough (min 20ft) to pull the subject away from the wall to create a beautiful, blurry bokeh background.
Lighting the Subject (and the Guest)
Flattering lighting is non-negotiable for executive interviews. Look for studios that include large softboxes (min 90cm octaboxes) and a separate ceiling-mounted grid to keep the floor clear for camera movements.
Green Room & Guest Comfort
Your interviewee might be a CEO or a high-profile guest. They need a private place to prep, check makeup, and have a coffee. A studio with no green room is a sign to keep looking.
The Director's Walkthrough Checklist
- Is there a dedicated monitor for the client/director to watch?
- Are the chairs height-adjustable and squeak-free? (Squeaky chairs ruin audio).
- Does the AC have a 'silent mode'?
- Is there reliable Wi-Fi for the crew?
Frequently Asked Questions
- Do I need a hair and makeup artist? For corporate, yes. A 'shine-free' face is essential under studio lights.
- How much buffer time should I book? Book 90 mins before the guest arrives for setup and 60 mins after they leave for backup and wrap.
- Can I record 4K multi-cam to one device? Most high-end studios offer a video switcher (like an ATEM) that can do this.
